Oil sludge is not only a waste produced in the oilfield production process, but also a resource. If the oil sludge is not properly treated and recovered, it will not only pollute the environment, but also cause a waste of resources. The common waste oil sludge treatment methods include landfill, extraction, incineration, biological, and pyrolysis/distillation.
1. Landfill method
The direct landfill of waste oil sludge or the landfill after solidification are both simple and easy to implement. The direct landfill method of waste oil sludge is currently a major waste oil sludge treatment method used in some oil fields.

2. Incineration method
This method requires pre-dehydration, concentration and pretreatment of oily sludge, and then sends it to an incinerator for incineration, and the temperature requirement needs to be as high as 800-850°C. And the ash after incineration needs to be further processed.
3. Extraction method
The extraction method is to use the principle of compatibility to select a suitable organic solvent as the extraction agent to recycle the fuel oil in the waste oil sludge. It mainly uses multi-stage separation extraction plus one-stage hot washing method to treat waste oil sludge, and the treated oil sludge can meet the agricultural sludge discharge standard.

4. Biological method
The biological treatment technologies of waste oil sludge mainly include field farming, composting and sludge bioreactor. It mainly uses microorganisms to degrade petroleum hydrocarbons in waste oil sludge into harmless oil components.
5.Pyrolysis/distillation method
Waste oil sludge pyrolysis/distillation technology can properly treat waste oil sludge, separate oil, water and solids contained in waste oil sludge, degrade harmful components in waste oil sludge, and meet environmental discharge standards, thereby achieving a win-win situation of resource recovery and environmental protection.
